The issue of the SGP port arose when the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) activated the Timely Planning and Coordination Platform (JIT Platform) with effect from October 1, 2023 for vessels berthed at the MPA terminals and the Jurong Port for cargo operations.
All stakeholders in the incident, such as shipping agents, liner companies and maritime service providers, were asked to use the JIT platform as a means of obtaining the best way for ships to arrive and depart from the port of Singapore. From January 2014, the JIT platform will be extended to cruise ships berthed at the Energy Terminal and all vessels at anchor.
The JIT Platform is a advanced technology that provides up-to-the- information on vessel schedules in the port, enabling ships preparing to enter the port to maintain optimal operational speeds to arrive at the port of Singapore, thus helping to reduce the time spent at anchor before berthing. The program reduces carbon emissions by optimizing voyages to reduce fuel consumption.
The MPA believes that service providers and stakeholders can utilize the platform to save time and reduce losses by using real-time data to schedule the vessel plans and for the deployment of resources.
Since July 2023, MPA has been giving training sessions to users of the JIT platform to familiarize them with its features and functions. Using the JIT platform, terminals can provide estimated berthing times and share them out. This prevents operators from taking advantage of the first-come, first-served principle, but each stakeholder is able to optimize the voyage with the necessary information.
